Giulia Miotti discusses Transparency in Financial Markets: Some Issues and New Perspectives

In her talk, Giulia discusses the issue of transparency and accountability in financial practice. In particular, she offers an overview of two approaches alternative to mainstream financial practice engaged in enhancing transparency and accountability: the latest EU policies and the practice of ethical finance and banking.
Transparency is nowadays a concept of critical importance when it comes to the promotion of a just transition towards a more sustainable and fair economy. Despite the theoretical importance recognized to information, classical financial markets do not seem to extend such recognition to the practice of transparency and accountability. In the light of such deficiency, I describe two alternative answers. One is represented by the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), a set of policies devised to boost the EU Action Plan on Sustainable Finance, while the other is represented by the alternative model of governance proposed by the practitioners of ethical finance and banking such as Banca Etica and the European Federation of Ethical and Alternative Banks and Financiers (FEBEA).
The meeting is followed by an open debate.
